When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

I actually argued myself blue in the face on lilymud on the subject once..... what one person wants in their journey as an artist may not be what another person wants. Im not saying its bad by any means! Its very helpful for an artist, if they want it. I actually dont prefer it on any of my pieces... its not that i think my stuff is amazing or doesnt need improvement.... its just... im not posting my stuff on here to have people tell me whats wrong with it... i just want to display my finished pieces in hopes of touching somebody in some way. If i bring a smile to one persons face, a tear to their eye... or just put a thought in their head... then to me its a flawless piece of art... no matter how off it might be.... some of the best/most memorable/most touching pieces of art i've ever seen have been peices that were heavily critiqued for different things... and i found them to be perfect the way they were.
In a perfect Daanzi world... people wouldnt offer critique unless the artist asked for it. But then a perfect Daanzi world isnt everyone elses perfect world... haha... 'cause i know a ton of people who really like to have their work critiqued and wouldnt want to have to always be asking for it just like i dont like to always have to ask not to get it. XD I respect that you think that people should always welcome it, and i definatelydefinatelydefinately understand why you think that.
i guess its all personal opinion. lol. i've never been able to properly express my views on critique to an artist who is an avid believer of critique in a way that they could understand my view like i intend. As a matter of fact, i've had people get really upset by my opinion on the matter and i dont see why.. nor do i think its fair. I've heard a million reasons under the sun why i should welcome critique, and i've heard a hundred times how silly i am for not wanting it... but its all in what is important to me in my art.
whew... well im sure that made no sense. i cant seem to properly voice the reason behind my beliefs.. but golly i try. hehe. sorry for the uber long reply!
